Winter Art Fair at Lyme Bay Arts

A few images of the recent Winter Art Fair at Lyme Bay Arts. There were a wide range of art mediums and styles represented at this event, providing a fantastic show for visitors to see as well as great inspiration for Christmas presents!

Most photos show the event all set up and ready to go in the "The Gallery" and next door in "The Space".
The final photo is a close up of my display space after two weeks. Many of the bowls have been sold and replaced!

Lyme Bay Arts

I have joined the recently formed Lyme Bay Arts CIC and took part in their first Members' Exhibition in September. Some stunning pieces were on display and it was very busy for the whole three weeks! It coincided with Bridport Open Studios and was part of their circuit. A really encouraging start to this exciting venture!

The next exhibition I will hopefully be taking part in is the Autumn Open which runs from 9th to 27th November. Do visit if you are in the area, you will not be disappointed!

Yandles show Sept 2019

I absolutely loved demonstrating on my own stand at Yandles show for the first time. It was as busy as I've ever seen it; apparently the car park was full to overflowing and I think it was elbow room only in the mill. My stand was in the marquee with the other woodturners and also my club, Martock and District Woodturners, the first time for several years I have not been involved with their stand!
I demonstrated mainly Dragon bowls, either Green Dragon or a version using sycamore with purple as the base colour and a mix of bronze and gold highlights. I made a couple of bowls completely but for most of the time, especially on Saturday, demonstrated to small groups who came round, watched me do the textured rim, base colour and highlight on small portions of the rim and then moved on to other demonstrators. On both days I wasn't able to have a break until about 2pm. I prefer it that way though, its great to have an appreciative audience!

"Unwrapped" at Town Mill, Lyme regis

I'm very pleased to be taking part in "Unwrapped" at The Malthouse Gallery, Town Mill, Lyme Regis every day from now until the 27th December. It is the Mill's seasonal event featuring contemporary art and craft, all created locally. Ideal inspiration for Christmas presents! 

Open from 10.30am to 4.30pm each day.

Westpoint 26th and 27th Oct 2018

I spent last Friday and Saturday at the Woodworking and Power Tool Show at Westpoint Arena near Exeter with my club, Axminster Woodturners Club. To cut a long story short, I did a demonstration slot each day on the stage, as a representative from my club. This was a new experience for me and a little nerve wracking as usually it is the professionals who do these demos. Interaction with the audience was limited due to the position in the venue and the audience are free to come and go as they please!

I think it went reasonably well, here are some photos from Friday's slot. I demonstrated how to colour the rim of an Ash bowl and texture the rim of an Oak bowl.

End of the WIT Exhibition!

My Green Dragon bowl was returned today, back from the Turnabout exhibition in America. It was a year ago this month that I was hurriedly photographing my entries ready to submit to the juried selection. I still remember the shock when I received the email in early December to say that my piece had been selected! A great opportunity and I feel very pleased to have had this opportunity.
Below are a few photos of the exhibition at it's last venue, at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.
